Reading your piece, I came to feel that a pioneering spirit, something like Don Quixote’s, now has to be built into us as a matter of necessity.

And I agree with you that a company needs to apply both modes to fit the situation: the growth of uncovering latent opportunities, and the process of optimizing the system it already has.

In the post below, I’ve taken that focus a step past the company itself, to the talent that holds the company up, and asked how a person should prepare. I split it into two elements, Potentiality and Sustainability, and worked toward defining the relationship between them.

(I cited James G. March, “Exploration and Exploitation in Organizational Learning” (1991) in this post as well. There, exploration corresponds to Potentiality and exploitation corresponds to Sustainability.)

So it feels like you and I are working from the same view here, and I’d genuinely love to exchange thoughts with you.

Thank you for the excellent piece. I’m rooting for where you go next!!

What struck me most is that this isn't just an operational challenge but a governance one. If experimentation becomes a core organisational capability, governance frameworks need to evolve from controlling change to enabling safe, measurable experimentation at scale. Really insightful piece.
